El Cocuy National Natural Park is the largest glacial mass in Colombia, made up of more than 25 peaks covered in ice and snow, in two mountain ranges of approximately 25 kilometers in length by 4 kilometers wide. The protected area also has moorlands and a large strip of Andean forest and basal jungle that are home to a great diversity of fauna and flora species. On this trip you can climb one of the three authorized trails such as Púlpito del Diablo/Pan de Azúcar, Laguna Grande de la Sierra or Ritacuba Blanco.
Must-sees on this trip:
- Cocuy Historic Center: It is known for its rich history and cultural heritage. There you will find the main church, the square, crafts and local markets, among others.
- Snow edge: The highest area of mountains where the permanent or semi-permanent snow line is found. This area is marked by the presence of glaciers, snowfields and alpine landscapes, and is generally found at high altitudes, above 4,000 metres above sea level. For conservation reasons, it is prohibited to walk on it.
- Hot springs: You will enjoy them at the end of the experience, there you will relax and rest the day after the ascent to Nevado.
