The hotels are located very close to the town centre of San Agustín, just a 15-minute walk from the archaeological site. The rooms offer single, double, triple, quadruple and multiple occupancy, depending on the number of people. All have cable TV and a private bathroom with a shower. They also have private balconies with garden views. Free coffee and Wi-Fi are provided at no additional cost.

How to get?

To get to San Agustín, you have several options:

  • By Air: You can travel to Pitalito with Satena or Click on our partner airline for flights, which gives you the opportunity to connect with us in wonderful destinations.   And from there, by bus to San Agustín, it takes approximately 50 minutes and the approximate cost is 10,000 COP. You can also get to Neiva by this means with airlines such as Avianca.
  • By Land: From Neiva, take a bus at the transport terminal to San Agustín. The trip will take approximately 5 hours, with a cost of approximately 45,000 COP per trip. If you travel by land using public transport from Bogotá, you must leave from the Salitre terminal with the Cootranshuila or Coomotor companies. The approximate cost per trip is 100,000 COP and the duration is approximately 10 hours.

Day 1 - Culture and traditions:
Upon arrival in San Agustín , you will check in at 2:00 pm, then you will have the afternoon free to explore the charming town. We invite you to visit the farmers market and the handicraft street, where you can appreciate and purchase the works of talented local artisans. Among the most outstanding crafts, you will find the famous stone carving, basketry and fabrics made from banana fiber, recognized internationally. Take advantage of this opportunity to take home a unique souvenir from San Agustín.

Day 2 - Natural and archaeological sites:
After breakfast, your host will pick you up to begin a tour of the San Agustín Archaeological Park . During this pleasant walk, you will immerse yourself in the magic and legacy of the pre-Columbian culture that inhabited the Alto Magdalena . You will visit emblematic sites such as Mesitas A, B and C, the Lavapatas Fountain , the Alto del Lavapatas, the Forest of Statues and the Museum . The tour, which will be carried out with the accompaniment of your host, will last 4 to 5 hours and is of a low level of demand, perfect to enjoy at your own pace. In the afternoon, you will experience a dose of extreme adrenaline in the only canopy in Colombia that crosses the eastern mountain range to the central one, over the impressive Magdalena River canyon. It will be an exciting adventure in the air, surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Colombian Massif.

Day 3 - Horseback riding and rafting:
In the morning, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast before embarking on an exciting horseback ride along rural roads that will take you to the impressive archaeological sites of Tablón and La Chaquira. During the tour, you will be able to admire the landscape of the Colombian Massif, connecting with the enigmatic sculptures that have been found in these mountains. In the afternoon, get ready to live an extreme adventure in the waters of the Magdalena River. You will embark on an exciting level 3 rafting trip, starting at the bridge that divides the municipalities of San Agustín and Isnos and descending 8 kilometers downriver. If you are a good swimmer, you will have the opportunity to jump into the water, always under the supervision of an instructor.

Day 4 - End of the experience:
After breakfast, you will have the morning free until 11:00 am to check out.

*Important: The San Agustín Archaeological Park is closed every Tuesday of the month. On December 25th and January 1st.

Tips for the tour and Travel Equipment

Travel Equipment:

  • Travel gear: Bring comfortable, cool clothing, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent. It is recommended to wear cotton or quick-drying clothing in light colors to avoid the heat. Don't forget to bring sunglasses, a cap or a hat to protect yourself from the sun. A thermos or canteen to refill drinking water during the trip is useful, avoid the consumption of single-use plastics. It is important to wear comfortable shoes for walking. A personal first aid kit is never too much. Bags to pack your dirty clothes. Bring a backpack-type suitcase (maximum 8 lb). Large or wheeled suitcases are not recommended, and a small backpack for hiking is very useful.

  • Season: The best time to visit San Agustín, Huila, is during the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. During these months, the weather is sunnier and more pleasant, ideal for exploring the stunning landscapes and archaeological sites without the frequent rains that can make the trails more slippery. However, the destination can be visited in other months of the year and where it is not as crowded.

At the destination you can find typical dishes such as: Huila barbecue, achira biscuit, insulso, Huila tamal, cholupa juice, curd biscuit, among others.
  • Transportation: In San Agustín, transportation is primarily based on taxis and mototaxis, which are ideal for getting around the town and its surroundings. There are also buses and colectivos that connect with Neiva and other nearby towns. For visitors, there are tourist transportation services that facilitate transfers to places of interest. Due to the compact size of the towns, walking is a practical option for exploring. If you prefer to bring your own vehicle, it will be an excellent option to enjoy the destination without setbacks. If you need private transportation, do not hesitate to consult your advisor; we will be happy to help you coordinate it.
