what should you know?

Included:
  • Transportation: Transfer Bahía Solano Airport - Hotel - Bahía Solano Airport, approximately 50 minutes each way, by car or Tuk Tuk.
  • Accommodation: 5 nights accommodation in standard cabins with rooms with single and double beds with private bathroom and fan. It will be assigned according to availability and characteristics of your reservation.
  • Food: 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 5 dinners ( If your reservation is on the date of December 24 or 31, you must keep in mind that there will be an additional charge of $230,000COP per person corresponding to a special dinner)
  • Activities:
    • Depart by boat to go whale watching (if you don't see the whales on the first trip, a second whale watching will be done).
    • Tour to the El Almejal nature reserve.
    • Boat tour to visit the Utría National Natural Park.
    • Canoe ride on the Tundó River.
  • Others: Medical assistance insurance and accompaniment by a local guide in Spanish

*Children under 2 years old or younger do not pay for their stay but share a bed with their parents and do pay travel insurance (approximately 5,000 COP per day) and any additional consumption.

**If during your visit Utría Park is closed, this tour will be replaced by another similar activity agreed upon directly at the destination**.

Not included:

*The superior rooms are located at the top of the ecolodge, you must climb 85 steps to get there, but they are more spacious and provide a greater feeling of privacy and disconnection. Staying in these rooms has an additional cost to the plan.

Lodging details

Duration: 6 days 5 nights

The ecolodge is located in the town of El Valle, it was one of the first tourist accommodations in Bahía Solano and one of the most recognized in Colombia for its commitment to sustainable tourism. It is made up of 10 spacious wooden cabins of 32 square meters. In each cabin there are beds with mosquito nets, a private bathroom and a terrace with a hammock. It also has a restaurant area and a large deck facing the beach. The hotel does not have WiFi service, the cell phone signal is poor and there is no TV in the rooms, there is no air conditioning or TV. There is electricity service in the rooms.

Additionally, the ecolodge offers the possibility of staying in a safari-style cabin, located inside the jungle, 15 meters above sea level, in a privileged location with views of the sea and the Natural Reserve. The doors and windows of the cabin are designed to let in the light that comes filtered by the forest and allow you to appreciate nature. The cabin has two independent rooms, one with a view of the beach and the other with a view of the jungle. Each room has a private bathroom and shower.

How to get?

Bahía Solano is isolated by land routes. The safest and easiest way to get there is by air, arriving at the José Celestino Mutis airport, from Medellín and Quibdó. From Medellín it is a flight of approximately 40 to 45 minutes with airlines such as Satena, EasyFly and charter companies that operate from the Olaya Herrera airport. From Quibdó the flight takes about 20 minutes and Satena and charter companies also fly.

Day 1 - Arrival at Bahía Solano:
The host will be waiting for you at the Bahía Solano airport, he will pick you up to take you by car or motorcycle taxi to El Valle , a small town on the seashore. You will have lunch, and have time to enjoy the beach, then in the evening, after dinner, you will receive a technical talk about whales.

Day 2 -Whale watching:
Very early in the morning, after having breakfast, you will embark on a boat tour to look for the Yubarta whales . You will enjoy the spectacle that the whales provide when they come to the surface, appreciating their backs, tails and jumps. Then we will return to the hotel to have lunch and have the afternoon free to rest. Dinner will be at the hotel.

Day 3 - Visit the nature reserve:
After breakfast, you will visit the conservation projects being carried out in the Nature Reserve, such as the organic garden that supplies the ecolodge's kitchen, and learn about the tropical rainforest and other ecosystems in the area. In the afternoon you can walk the beach and enjoy the ecolodge facilities.

Day 4 - Utría National Natural Park:
During this day you will visit one of the most beautiful settings in Colombia: the Utría Cove , a natural park famous for its lush jungle, mangrove forests and being the birthing room of humpback whales. In the place you can enjoy La Aguada beach, the mangrove trail and the small island of Playa Blanca.

Day 5 - Sail along the Tundó River:
During this day you will enjoy a canoe ride on the Tundó River, near the town of El Valle. It is a walk to appreciate the local flora and fauna, in the company of local guides and the opportunity to observe a variety of birds.


Day 6 - Return:
After breakfast and depending on the departure time of the plane, we will have time to rest in the morning. Then we will leave by land transportation to the Bahía Solano airport, where the trip ends.

Tips for the tour and Travel Equipment

Travel Equipment:

  • Sunscreen and lipstick (ideal if natural).
  • Insect repellent.
  • Sunglasses, with UV filter.
  • Canteen, thermos or camelback (minimum 1.5 liters).
  • Personal towel to use during walks.
  • Small backpack to use during walks.
  • Basic elements of personal hygiene.
  • Goggles or mask for snorkeling.
  • Traveler documents: passport, identity card or citizenship card, military passbook and medical insurance card.

Travel clothing:

  • It is important to wear comfortable clothing, preferably quick-drying, light-colored synthetic clothing. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts or t-shirts.
  • Closed, comfortable shoes for walking and easy drying. It is recommended to wear rubber boots, or pantaneras, ideal for walking in the humid jungle (some lodgings include them). You can also bring some extra sandals or beach shoes to change into when necessary.
  • Lightweight raincoat.
  • Dress or swimwear.
  • Hat or cap.
  • Scarf or sarong to protect you from the sun.

Tips for the tour:

  • On the day of travel, wear clothing for warm weather, preferably quick-drying, and choose outdoor footwear, that is; Water resistant and all-terrain sole.
  • In a small handbag that does not exceed 5 kilos, pack your travel voucher, your identity document, extra small denomination money (almost no one has change), medications if applicable and any other essential element for your health, glasses Sunglasses, camera, water bottle, and binoculars (they are very important to enjoy nature).
  • Try to return with the inorganic waste that you have generated during your stay so that you do not leave an ecological footprint in the region. After checking in at the airline, you must pay the airport tax, which is not included in the return ticket.
  • Cellular telephony is covered only by the CLARO operator.
